Olivver the Kid Interview

press photoBy Friday, the release day of Olivver the Kid’s second EP, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, I’d had enough time to start processing what Olivver had told me days before in our interview in Central Park. I’d left that interview a bit worried for him, to be honest. He’d expressed the toll music had taken on him; that he knew what success was like, he’d tasted it with The Neighbourhood, only to fall back into the shadows again when he split to do his own project as Olivver the Kid. Sure, as he put it, “It tastes better” to have the minimal success he has because it’s all his. He’s been able to put himself out there and a dedicated group of people love him for it. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt; and maybe it stings even more exactly because he knows what it would’ve been like…

Dinner and a Suit Interview @ Rockwood Music Hall

DAAS band photoThe boys from Dinner and a Suit – Drew, Jonathan, Joey, and Max – sat down with Sydne before their show last week at Rockwood Music Hall, NYC and talked about pretty much everything. We took a vote on pro-cloud or anti-cloud sentiment, got an update on the last time they called their moms, surveyed which band or musical celebrity they would take on in a “friendly fight” (which quickly devolved into a ping pong match), and discussed what their dream suit OR dream meal would be (or both, apparently). Check out some highlights from the conversation, and listen to the interview in full below!

Marmozets Interview @ Warped Tour 2014

marmozetsJack & Sam of Marmozets stopped by our swanky red couch at Salt Lake’s Warped Tour 2014. They explain why they dropped the “the” from their name, give us a rundown of the APMA’s from the week before, talk sipping champagne with Ed Sheeran, and list a few things about the U.S. that drive them crazy. Plus at the end, I find out what happens if you say their name wrong…

Bad Suns Interview @ Terminal 5

bad sunsChristo, Gavin, Miles, and Ray of Bad Suns snuck us backstage at their Terminal 5 show opening up for The 1975 where we got cozy in their little changing room. While Ray choked on chili powder (kidding…he survived), we talked to the guys about touring and their artwork, and even got the down low on their debut album Language and Perspective. If that’s not enough, we talk tour mishaps (pants falling down and biffing it onstage) and spirit animals too.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us!

X Ambassadors Interview

x amSam, singer of gritty alt-R&B outfit X Ambassadors, took a break from load-in at In The Venue in Salt Lake City (opening for Panic! At The Disco) to sit down with us. We covered their EP – Love Songs Drug Songs, newest single “Shining“, impalements, creepy hospitals, Thor possibly in the video for “Unconsolable“, and – of course – spirit animals. It was a pure pleasure to chat with Sam as he was open to a range of awkward topics, sing-alongs, and bad puns on our part.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us Sam!

Deap Vally Interview @ Mercury Lounge

deap vally split

Lindsey Troy & Julie Edwards

Deap Vally puts out a metallic, raw, rock goddess persona and sound, but don’t be deceived. Lindsey and Julie are your typical, just, sisterly best friends who let it rip when they rock out. They’re sharp, witty, aware, fun, and biting with a sweet edge. Hanging out with them felt like chatting with my girlfriends. Don’t get me wrong, they totally bring the nostalgic 70’s rock vibe on stage complete with sequins and hair-whipping and guitar feedback, but deap down, they’re your carefree, outgoing, vally girls who are rousing up the Rock Revolution.
